I Survived a Zombie Apocalypse — TV titles & graphics

BBC Three

  • I Survived a Zombie Apocalypse Titles

In a unique, new twist on the reality game show, BBC Three took a group of contestants and put them through a zombie apocalypse. Eight contestants found themselves in an apocalyptic adventure trapped together in a shopping mall, surrounded by the walking dead. The contestants had to live by their wits, make difficult decisions, and use urban survival tactics to avoid the lethal bite of a zombie and stay alive.

ISO created the dramatic opening titles and all in-programme graphics for the 8-part show. Central to this was the creation of ‘zombie vision’ a technique we developed using Infra Red cameras from Kinect gaming systems to capture digital point clouds of actors and environments.  Zombie Vision was used to give the POV of the infected characters; a series of spoof information films were used to inject a dark humour and quickly explain in-programme challenges and we developed a long form opening sequence to introduce the main premise of the programme.

    Information graphics

The spoof government information films were used to supply survival ’tips’ to the contestants. The approach had to be flexible and adaptable to varying visual and scripting devices whilst being designed to work within a simple template. For these we shot a library of green screen zombie performers that were then mixed and matched with original illustration across sequences to create a rich, comic array of situations.
