Clydebuilt: The Ships that Made the Commonwealth — TV graphics

BBC Two

  • clydebuilt_03

BBC 2 series telling the story of four iconic vessels built in the Clyde’s shipyards: Cutty Sark, HMS Hood, MacKay-Bennett, Robert E Lee. ISO were commissioned to produce a series of CGI animations to bring the ships back to life and help to explain some of the unique technical aspects of each ship.

The CGI sequences not only illustrate the ships inner workings, but also show the massive scale of each vessel. Our approach was to composite the CGI ships back into locations around the Clyde, setting the CGI models against familiar backdrops for a better sense of scale. The river locations were shot using a camera mounted on a remote controlled drone. After editing and 3D tracking these shots, the ships were then composted in.
