    Hinterland at St Peter’s Seminary

The highly ambitious project by arts organisation NVA to reclaim the ruined Modernist masterpiece of St Peter’s Seminary as a world leading centre for performance and public art, debate and learning. Designed by the seminal Scottish architects Gillespie, Kidd and Coia, St Peter’s was abandoned in the 1980s and is now a dramatic, ravaged shell. St Peter’s has gained a cult-like status amongst architects, preservationists and artists, many of whom have studied, filmed and drawn its category A listed form.

Back in 2007, The Lighthouse held a retrospective exhibition of the legendary architect firm’s works and we created all the media and exhibition graphics for this. We also designed the first authoritative publication. Find out more here.

ISO’s Creative Partner, Damien Smith remains a board member and has been doing some consultancy with Angus Farquhar for the NVA’s restoration of St Peter’s Seminary. This month’s sold out inaugural event ‘Hinterland’ launched the Year of Architecture and Design and saw over 8,000 people visit the site over ten nights. Having raised funding of over £8 million, plans are now underway for the renewal and rebirth of the site.
